Winchester Heights Promotores Conduct Home Visits on Asthma

SEAHEC Healthy Farms CHWs bring asthma, lead education to their community
In Winchester Heights, SEAHEC’s trained Promotores de Salud, or Community Health Workers (CHWs), set out in January 2020 to teach community members about the risks and causes associated with asthma as well as strategies for prevention. The lesson was created for the particular context of Winchester Heights and its dominant Mexican-American culture and is part of SEAHEC’s “Agua Limpia” project, funded by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Environmental Justice grant program.

SEAHEC/ Mexican Consulate (Douglas) team up to expand Ventanilla de Salud Program

On January 31, 2020, a binational-interprofessional team of four SEAHEC interns worked with the Mexican Consulate (Douglas) to bring the Mexican Ventanilla de Salud Program to Pearce-Sunsites. The expansion of crucial public health services into rural southeast Arizona will serve Cochise, Graham and Greenlee Counties.

SEAHEC/ UA MILAGRO Inter-professional Education Program Covered on News 4 Tucson

Migration Inter-professional Leading to Action and Growth (MILAGRO) Pilot
Last summer, (2019) SEAHEC and the University of Arizona’s (UA) Health Sciences Center, piloted the first ever inter-professional course to focus on migration. The course was very successful, and was expanded to include twice as many students and participation of the Arizona State University College of Social Work. Recently, the innovative program was covered by News 4 in Tucson.

SEAHEC Healthy Farms Promotoras on PBS: Providing Health Advocacy to Farm Workers

The community center at Winchester Heights has hosted an exceptional amount of community activity since its inauguration in August, 2018. Residents have built a soccer league, held health and school events conducted fundraising and training events, but now people are ready to take a major step toward independence. Recently, PBS News Hour covered the Healthy Farms team's activities in Winchester Heights.

SEAHEC and Partners Hold 28th Annual EMS on the Border Conference

28th ANNUAL EMS on the Border Conference
Initiating in 1992, the EMS on the Border conference provides an opportunity for emergency medical personnel including EMTs, Paramedics, ED nurses and others, to earn continuing education credits, while learning about state of the art practice and skills in their field.
