SEAHEC Future Healthcare Leaders Students visit Grand Canyon University
On November 4th 2011, eighty- five students from the SEAHEC Health Career clubs from Douglas, Bisbee, Nogales, Rio Rico and Tucson high schools participated in the “Grand Canyon University 26th Annual Health Sciences and Nursing Day”. Over 1,000 students from all over the state attended. This day-long event included presentations on health-related topics, college admissions and display booths from many healthcare associations, HOSA,
and GCU and other universities. Workshop presentations included “Body of Evidence: The Life of a Medical Examiner”, “DNA Sequencing: The Road to Personalized Medicine “, “Forensic Evidence, Healthcare and the Justice System”, “Top Ten Reasons to be a Nurse”, “The Many Roles of the Maternal Child Nurse”, and others. Students and chaperones stayed overnight at the Radisson Hotel in Phoenix the night prior. SEAHEC’s Program Coordinator for Future Health Care Leaders Mireya Velasco coordinated this successful and fun-filled event for SEAHEC high school students.
