Enhance effective Parent – Teen Communication, including topics such as establishing positive life goals, peer pressure, dating and more;

Increase understanding of adolescent development, its challenges and opportunities, and

Provide information on resources available in our community to support teens, including mental health services, care for asthma, and much more.

“Can We Talk” is designed with input by and for teens, with guidance from SEAHEC and AWN, with guest speaker Barb Iversen, Adolescent Development Expert. This is the third year our community hosts this workshop, based on very positive feedback from parents and teens alike.

Participant evaluations from the 2016 workshop included comments such as:

“I learned to not avoid them (parents) and not take them for granted. How not to lose my temper and communicate. Put myself in my parents’ shoes before doing something and arguing.”

“I learned that a healthy relationship with your parents is very important in order to have a good communication and a good support system.”

SEAHEC’s “Can We Talk” workshops are open to parents and guardians of teens AND teens age 14 to 19.
