December is the time the border community of Nogales Arizona and Nogales Sonora comes
together at their annual Christmas Light Parade. This year’s theme was “It’s all about
Christmas”, the Boys & Girls Club along with SEAHEC wasted no time in beginning the
decorating their “posada” inspired float. Posada is the Spanish word for “providing lodging” and
has a long tradition in Latin America as a Christmas festival that dramatizes the search of Joseph
and Mary for lodging.

This month marks the second year SEAHEC has collaborated with the Boys and Girls Club of
Nogales to create a magnificent float for all to admire. SEAHEC Community Health Workers,
alongside the Boys & Girls Club, worked as a team to bring a flowered-filled float that embodied
the importance of community and unity. From a pinata hovering overhead to a Christmas-
decorated cactus, the Christmas spirit filled every corner of the float.

SEAHEC’s collaboration with the Boys & Girls Club throughout the year focuses on helping the
community through volunteering opportunities and family programs.

“The Club has been doing family nights where parents are invited to join with the kids for a
variety of hands-on activities that promote health, prevents disease, fun learning, and arts and
crafts. In addition, SEAHEC has provided education and materials for their monthly events, and
we have presented to them on topics such as COVID prevention.” –CHW Lupita G.

The Boys & Girls Club of Nogales supports the community’s youth through programs that
empower teens to begin helping within their own community through the VIP program. In
addition to job opportunities, local high schools also volunteer with the Club after school. The
Nogales Boys & Girls Club helps not only the community of today but also the community of
tomorrow. They work hard to ensure opportunities for youth, which will help them make a
difference in the long run.

SEAHEC is proud to collaborate with the Boys & Girls Club to make a difference.
